HHF05 Double Oaked Bourbon
Some bourbons arrive with enough age and structure that they ask for a more deliberate hand. HHF05 began as a 13-year-old Kentucky straight bourbon, bottled at 125.36 proof, and built from a mash bill of 78% corn, 10% rye, and 12% malted barley. Already rich and mature, it was selected for a second maturation in unused French oak casks, allowing the wood to elevate the whiskey without overwhelming its original character.
This additional time in French oak deepens the bourbon's natural notes of vanilla cream, milk chocolate, baking spice, and toasted oak. The result is a whiskey of remarkable depth and composure, where mature oak, confectionary sweetness, and layered spice come together with quiet confidence.
Nose: Vanilla cream and rich milk chocolate rise first, supported by a foundation of toasted oak. Delicate floral undertones add lift, while caramelized sugar and warm baking spice bring added depth and nuance.
Palate: Baking chocolate, vanilla cream, and warm pastry unfold in seamless layers. The oily, coating mouthfeel carries sweet oak, gentle baking spice, and cocoa across the palate, creating balance between richness and structure.
Finish: Toasted oak and tobacco leaf carry through the finish, joined by dark chocolate and lingering baking spice. As the sweetness fades, a dry oak character remains, bringing the whiskey to a warm and satisfying close.
